Simply rain on all the fires, then end the level. Required Objectives - Put out all the fires Generally speaking, after a level we'll want to pick the next level on the critical path. There is a single path to the end of the game, with a few split paths and offshoots leading to dead ends. I'll mention them as you get close to their location to save schlepping all over. There are things to do on the map for achievements, including the collectible "fanboys". You can move freely about the map, but can only enter levels when the previous one has been completed. Hit and select "End Level" to complete the level the select "End" to go back to the map. You can aim with the drop shadow on the ground, and you know when you have successfully soaked anyone because they will turn blue. Place your cloud over the happy couple and hit to rain on them. There is an optional objective to soak all the humans, but this is not needed, I will skip these option objectives most of the time but you can feel free to attempt them for fun. ![]() Rain on them both to complete the level objectives. The bride is wearing pink and walking towards the altar, and the groom is the fellow in the glasses at the altar. So where necessary, be sparing with your rain.Īll you need to do on this first level is rain on the bride and groom. In these early levels and certain others, you can fail the level by running out of rain water. You should now have control of a happy little cloud which you can move with and rain with. You will see the level objectives, hit to begin the level. Required Objectives - Soak the bride and groom You start in the first level, a cute little wedding scene. Start the game, watch the cutscenes or skip with and then the game begins for real. Make sure you rain on every fanboy you come across to avoid having to backtrack to find the one you missed. There are collectible Fanboys throughout the game you need to soak all 16 for an achievement, so I will underline them so you they stand out and you can find them if you miss one. If there is no Asterix, then there is something in the level you need to do as part of an achievement that you might otherwise miss. Some levels are so easy that you are probably quicker to just play them rather than read my walkthrough. In these cases I will put an Asterix* before the level name so that you can skip my explanation of the level if you wish. In some levels, you only need to beat them for this initial playthrough and there are no extra tasks related to achievements. I will explain when you need to do more than the minimum. You mostly only need to worry about the objectives with a yellow star. In the levels, you must complete objectives to beat the level, and you can see the objectives by pressing. Once you finish a level, move on to the next one on the main path and that should be the next level in the guide. The guide will feature the necessary levels in order and explain any extra levels or best choices when split paths occur. There is a single path to the final level, so we generally do not need to worry about any level that is off the main route. The levels are laid out on an overworld map and you select each level by moving your cloud (called Cloudy) and raining on them. ![]() So the levels I will guide you through are just the ones needed to reach the end of the game. You don't need to play or beat every level. Additionally, we are going to pick up some achievements along the way. The main goal here is to get you through the game, to finish the final level and unlock New Game +. Once you load it up, it will be on your profile whether you like it or not there is no trying it for a few minutes before the first achievement pops to decide if you want to continue or not. Make sure you are committed to unlocking the achievements of this game before you boot it up.

The tool will tell you if your processor is compatible with the technology. Those stretches in particular are caught in a hazy middle ground that’s probably too blasé for non-baseball fans to care and too rote to offer die-hards anything fresh. The gravity and tension of building one step closer to a title gets lost in standard-issue overviews that race through game footage at blazing speed. In “The Captain,” especially when the Yankees’ steamrolling made their championship runs feel like a destined outcome, the actual games often feel incidental. It’s peppered with anecdotes and snippets from game stories and profiles that are ingots of local news gold. What starts out as a handful of simple box scores become miniature Greek tragedies in the pursuit of an elusive no-hitter or an American League Championship Series showdown. That biography, maybe by virtue of not working with direct player interviews, is almost laser-focused on the power of the inherent drama in the games themselves. It’s not that “The Captain” is a glossy, singularly positive product, but its on-camera contributors are rarely willing to add something that doesn’t already fit in with a preexisting conception of how any of these on- or off-field events played out.Īt the risk of drawing comparisons between vastly different projects, it’s hard to watch this series and not think of another longform 2022 baseball documentary: the Secret Base “Dorktown” four-part look at the personal and professional roller coaster of Toronto Blue Jays pitching iconoclast Dave Steib. ![]() These episodes don’t get much closer to any kind of clarity than the countless “he said, he said” accounts that have come before, namely because the two parties involved have two of the most finely calculated baseball personas in recent memory. ![]() The closest that “The Captain” comes to seizing on something of real clubhouse substance is the long-simmering tension between Jeter and fellow generational star Alex Rodriguez, one that’s been a topic of public debate since both were teenagers. This isn’t a project designed to delve deep into the psyche of its subject, beyond coming away with the repeated refrain that he worked really hard to get where he was and really didn’t like losing. Maybe after years and years of New York media training or scores of other retrospectives, there’s not much in “The Captain” that feels revelatory or designed to answer some long-burning question about what made these Yankee teams tick. For that stretch, “The Captain” works better as an intro to a dynasty, a primer on a dominant half-decade run that minted Jeter as a star in the Bronx and far beyond. The stretch of “The Captain” covering the first five years of his career takes up almost half of the overall series. In a weird way, an early liability in the series is that Derek Jeter did win a lot. ![]() Aside from the show’s framing device of starting off each episode with snippets of his farewell 2014 game at Yankee Stadium, the rest of the series follows a roughly chronological recounting of the twenty years between being drafted and retiring. In the vein of other recent sports docs produced by ESPN and others, Jeter is the main attraction here, offering his direct-to-camera perspective on his life in a handful of different interview locations. ‘Barry’ Enters a Strange New World - and Can’t Shake the Old One Those are indicative of the best parts of “The Captain,” the ones that allow director Randy Wilkins to examine Jeter’s relationship with adversity, in whatever form it happens to take on. There are tiny nods to the “what if” paths his life would have gone down had a few key injuries and pivotal second chances never happened. The opening part of “ The Captain,” a new seven-part ESPN series on the career and times of the Hall of Fame New York Yankees shortstop, does go through the struggles of his early professional days. It’s not accurate to say that Derek Jeter never lost, despite the reputation that he fashioned for himself early in his career. That’s one of the inherent draws of sports, that for every winner, there are an equal or greater number of rivals to overcome as hurdles to the prize. From youth sports maxims of “it’s not about how you win, it’s how you lose” to professional athletes using naysayers as bulletin board material, there’s no amount of success that doesn’t also come paired with the opposite feeling. The portraits of champions are painted with failure. |
